Russia’s New Combat Robots Blown Up by Drones Near Avdiivka
When we landed on the moon, I thought about how science fiction had become real. Now, the robot wars have begun. It’s more poignant somehow on the ground than in the missile wars we have in the air as anti-missiles seek missiles. Like the air battle with the Houthis. Or the Israelis vs Hamas/Iran battle in the first few days,
But the real point here is we will soon see unarmed people confront armed ground robots. If there is a human in the loop, we have one level of peril. As soon as the robot is autonomous we have a far higher level to consider. Refugees and civilians will soon have this confrontation.
In Ukraine it appears we will see this kind of warfare continue and increase a great deal. We seem to be hell-bent on making the most violent science fiction reality rather than the most hopeful.
Explosive Ukrainian drones have taken out Russian combat robots close to the Moscow-controlled strategic eastern city of Avdiivka, new footage appears to show, with smaller ground drones likely to have a more prominent role in future fighting.
Russian forces have started using ground-based robots with automatic grenade launchers in combat in Ukraine, Kyiv’s 47th Mechanized Brigade said in a post to social media on Saturday.
